A Little of This; A Little of That

Here we go.

A little background: This isn't the first blog post I've done. I've attempted it once before, when I seriously thought I could do ONE EVERY DAY. You know those 30 day blog challenges? Well, that's SO NOT ME! At least not 30 in a row. It was too overwhelming, so I just stopped doing it. It was ONE MORE THING to do. If you're a teacher, you know that feeling.  I know myself better now and have more realistic expectations. If I were to do a 30 day blog challenge now it most certainly wouldn't be 30 days IN A ROW! Good grief...

I enjoy reading. I have a Bachelor's in English....because I ENJOY READING! I had to choose a major (insert eyeroll), so that's what I chose and why I chose it. Well..... the writing..... It seemed I did my best work the night before the paper was due.  PROCRASTINATORS UNITE!!

I've never really enjoyed writing. I did it, because I was expected to. An LA teacher who doesn't enjoy writing? That's what this summer is about - changing my mindset. I would like to think I'll come to enjoy it. Another teacher and I have the same goal for next year: reader/writer workshop. I signed up for CISD Litcamp and loved it! Well, I loved the reading part of it. The writing part...Well, you DID see the name of my blog? RELUCTANT WRITER. Who would want to read what I write? What if I don't have anything to say? Anyway, there it is.

I've also signed up for Teachers Write 2016. Hopefully, this will give me some structure to sit down and write AND some ideas for writing topics.

If you made it through this, THANK YOU!

Sincerely,

Reluctant Writer

  1. Dear Reluctant Writer (haha!),
I think you're doing a FANTASTIC job so far. What I like about this post is that's honest. I think many LA teachers, myself included, don't know how to approach writing or have mixed feelings about it. It's refreshing seeing that point of view communicated in black and white so truly and honestly. I look forward to reading more of what you have to say about writing and I'd love to see how your writing mindset grows.

You're my Teacher's Write buddy and workshop partner in crime--WE'VE GOT THIS!

  2. You do you. Whatever schedule (or not) that makes you feel like you are ahead, even a few steps of where you were before, is still a success in my book. :o)

  3. I got started late on Teachers Write, but I think it will help me with discipline. I love to write, but I have no discipline. I don't even like to be reminded that I should write - it's weird. But there it is.
