California: WARNING: Pictures

My husband's mother's family does a family reunion every year. This year, the reunion was being hosted by California relatives, so my husband, C, found this place in Watsonville online through HomeAway/VRBO. It looked nice enough, so we rented it. The closer it came to leave, the more excited I got!

We planned to spend a few days in Watsonville, then head to Monterey for the reunion, then spend a few days in San Francisco.

We got to the San Jose airport at 7:15 am (do the math...I was up at 3 and in a taxi by 4), got the rental car and headed out on our family adventure.  First, though? THE WEATHER! It was AMAZING! So nice and cool!

Our first stop was Los Gatos, where my husband had found a cafe that had "the best" breakfast in the area. That was his deal, finding "the best _____ in _____". Lol! It was pretty good.  The eggs were amazing! They mix them in a milkshake mixer!

Then, on to Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. This was cool and beautiful! We were tired, so we MIGHT'VE taken a quick nap in the car in the parking lot before we walked!

After walking, we rode the steam engine THROUGH the redwoods! Amazing! The sun was hot, but the breeze as we chugged along felt nice.

After leaving the park, we headed to Santa Cruz, which was on the way to our rental for the next few days.  For whatever reason, I didn't get pictures, but we parked and were able to walk above the shore. The sound of the waves hitting the rocks was so relaxing to me. I loved watching as the water hit the rocks and sprayed up, then repeated down the shore. I think I have pictures from a later day when we went.

Watsonville. "STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER!" This kept going through my head (and may have come out of my mouth a few times) as I kept seeing fields that went on and on.

FINALLY:

The view from our 2nd floor balcony. It was breathtaking! I heard the waves hitting the shore the entire time! I loved it and would still be there if I could be.

The sun setting on our first very full, very enjoyable (we ALL enjoyed it, even the 18 year old boy!) and very tiring day in California.

Sincerely,

Reluctant Writer

  1. What a beautiful area of California you visited! I always look at where the strawberries in the grocery store come from. Most of them are Watsonville. My favorite are from Oxnard, but I don't see those very often.
Way to go to push yourself to do more writing! Six years ago I started this writing journey and I'm still at it. I never saw myself as a writer, I was a reader. Now, I guess I can say, I'm a writer too. Welcome to the slicing world!
